Pumice & Oil used in woodworking, this technique
smooths finishes (like lacquer or shellac) to a satin sheen. You sprinkle fine
pumice powder onto the finished surface and use a Pumice oil as a lubricant. [
How to Use Pumice and Oil in Woodworking
Follow these simple steps to polish a wood finish
- Apply
the lubricant: Put a few drops of your chosen oil onto your rubbing
pad, felt block, or soft cloth, and wipe it thinly across the surface.
- Dust
the abrasive: Lightly sprinkle 4F (fine) pumice powder directly onto
the oiled surface.
- Rub
with the grain: Using the pad, gently rub the pumice and oil paste in
long, overlapping strokes following the wood grain. Avoid pressing down
too hard to prevent cutting through the finish.
- Clean
and check: Periodically wipe the area clean with a cloth to check your
progress. Repeat until you achieve the desired satin sheen.
- Final
cleanup: Once finished, clean the leftover residue off using warm,
soapy water or a clean dry cloth.
