Coolair Polishing Mop Guide
Coolair mops are sometimes called bias cloth mops are a very poplar design for polishing metal, plastics, lacquers and woods in all industries.
The ripple effect on the polishing mop gives a spacing between cloth sections which then when run helps to keep the work piece cooler than a standard mop construction.
We manufacture a new metal center coolair, each inner section has a center plate and the rivets pass through each section for a very secure fixing. This mean there is no risk of the coolair mop spinning
A common problem with the card centers is that over time staples fall out, this is risk to the user and work piece, the new metal centers solve this problem.
Seven cloths available-
Orange X Hard
Yellow Hard
No1 Quality Medium
G Quality Medium/Soft
Flannel Quality Soft
WDR Quality Very Soft
Please note that treated are available, white cloth above are all softer than treatments.
I will list some basic processes that some customers use, please note that this is a guide only and that you many need to adjust for your own applications-
Polishing Plastics, Lacquers and Woods Flat Surfaces
Flat to 1200-1500 Grit
Step 1- Glosswax 16 compound with G quality coolair mop
Step 2- P175 Compound with a WDR quality coolair mop
I do see alot off G quality mop with tripoli compound followed by G flannel with Glosswax 16 compound this would work well especially if you wish to grit lower. If you find that if the G quality mop is a little soft then drop down to the No1 cloth for extra hardness.
Metals Aluminum/Copper/brass
Step 1- Compound such as 1487 pink-439T green- SS17 yellow with a Yellow/Orange or B quality coolair mop
Step 2 Compound such as P164-480w-Hyfin with a No1/Flannel/G coolair
Step 3 Compound such as P175 or M5 with a Flannel or WDR coolair.
Metals Steel and Stainless
Step 1- Compound such as 1487 pink-439T green- SS17 yellow with a Yellow/Orange or B quality coolair mop
Step 2 Compound such as P164-P126-Hyfin with a No1/Flannel/G coolair
Step 3 Compound such as P175-M5 with super soft WDR quality cloth or flannel
I would still suggest for steel and stainless standard sisal mops work best for the process after abrasive belts.
Coolairs are designed for polishing larger flatter areas such as metal sheets, pianos, items such as retro caravans, aluminum extrusions and other larger items where consistency over an area is need while keeping the surface cooler. On smaller complex shaped items they can catch the work piece, please be careful when using any polishing wheel. They are also popular for polishing smaller items that warm quickly and become hot to handle.
IMPORTANT- Maximum running speed for a coolair mops is 3000RPM
